Second Inaugural Address
I let my domain expire. I hadn’t published a post in over a year and I was expecting even less free time with the arrival of Max (baby boy numero uno!). Luckily, my free time hasn’t been too bad, and I’ve had an itch to write/create semi-permanent place for more geeky things, in addition to music things. So, armed with a resolve to actually click the “Publish” button more often, I’m stepping back up to plate.
Except that there’s still a batter there. I had no idea that it took so long for a domain to go from “expired” to actually being available. If the Internet is to be trusted, it’s 75 days. Ignore the man behind whois! It also seems like a bit of a racket that you can renew in the “expired” period for more moola. Anyways, thanks to a /etc/hosts update and a little borrowed time from Max, I’m back in action-ish.
Pasting in tmux with VI mode
I really like tmux. I really like installing tmux with homebrew in iTerm2. I also really like vim. I like using the vi mode within tmux.
Ahem. I don’t like Google’s link redirect thing when I’m copying and pasting links from a search. I really don’t like when Google gets stuck in its 2001 trying-to-get-back-from-result-but-being-redirect-forward-so-you-have-to-click-back-a-lot-and-then-overshoot-your-link. I really don’t like when that happens on old school Google Nexus One, especially coming in to or out of a mobile redirection. These aren’t really important right now.
Anyways, vi mode in tmux is great. As soon as I found it was available, I switched over. So, when I attempted to use the paste buffer today, I couldn’t figure out why it was working. I hadn’t rebinded anything with the paste buffer and my “man” searching wasn’t fruitful (even though the answer is there). It took this tmux post to get me there. From the man, under WINDOWS AND PANES:
- Start selection: Space
- Copy selection: Enter
Now I’m copying and pasting between buffers and life is great. Thanks Internet!
